CARFAX listings
Send your cars to CARFAX Used Car Listings. You need CARFAX Car Listings on your CARFAX account, and your CARFAX rep sets up the pickup from your feed.
Last updated
CARFAX shows dealers' cars on CARFAX.com in its Used Car Listings. CARFAX offers that to dealers as CARFAX Car Listings, an upgrade only CARFAX Advantage dealers can add, so it has to be on your CARFAX account first. AutoDealer.io builds the inventory file. CARFAX picks it up from your feed URL once your CARFAX rep has set you up.
Only owners and managers can change marketplace settings.
Before you start
- CARFAX Car Listings on your CARFAX account. You arrange it with CARFAX, and we can't turn it on for you. If you don't have it, ask your CARFAX rep or see CARFAX Car Listings.
- Your feed key. Every marketplace URL runs off one key. If you haven't made it yet, click Generate feed URLs under Inventory feed (see Feed URL and token).
Turn on CARFAX
- Go to Settings → Marketplaces and find the CARFAX card.
- Flip its switch on. The badge changes from Off to Active.
- On the Feed URL tab, copy the feed URL. It ends in
carfax.csv. - Ask your CARFAX rep for your CARFAX dealer code, the ID CARFAX uses for your dealership. Type it in the CARFAX dealer code box below the tabs and click Save changes.
- Email the feed URL to your CARFAX rep and ask them to set up your CARFAX listings from your AutoDealer.io feed.
- Once CARFAX confirms, it picks up your feed on its own schedule. New cars show up and sold cars drop off without you doing anything.
Leave the CARFAX switch on. While it's off, or while the whole feed key is paused, CARFAX gets a 404 and your cars come off CARFAX.com.
What goes in the file
The file follows the layout CARFAX's listings partner asked for: one row per car, with your dealership on every row.
- Which cars: published to your website, for sale (not sold or pending), with an asking price, at least one public photo and a valid VIN. The Feed URL tab shows how many of your published cars qualify.
- About the car: VIN, stock number, year, make, model, trim, body style, mileage, colors, doors, cylinders, engine, drivetrain, transmission, the car's features, the photos in your website's order, and a link to the car's page on your website.
- Price: your asking price. Never your cost, and never the original MSRP.
- Your text: the car's description, followed by your listing disclaimer if you use one.
- About you: your dealership's name and your CARFAX dealer code, the main lot's address and phone, the email your website shows, and your website address.
- Condition: every car goes as Used, and certified pre-owned as No.
FAQ
Why do I send the URL to my CARFAX rep?
CARFAX's side starts the pickup, and your rep needs the feed URL to know where your cars are.
Why does the CARFAX dealer code matter?
It's how CARFAX knows the cars in the file are yours. It goes on every row, so until you save it CARFAX can't match your cars to your CARFAX account. The card shows a warning while it's empty.
A car is on my website but not on CARFAX. Why?
Either CARFAX hasn't picked up the feed since you added it, or the car doesn't qualify. Check that it has an asking price, a public photo and a valid VIN, and that it isn't marked sold or pending.
I rotated my feed key. What now?
Rotating gives every feed a new URL and the old ones stop working at once. Copy the new CARFAX URL and send it to your CARFAX rep.
