Print a window sticker for a car
Print your own window sticker from a car's page: the price, the mileage, the features and a QR code to the listing, on one letter page.
Last updated
A window sticker is your own sheet for the glass: the car, its mileage, its price, its features and a code a shopper scans to open the listing. It prints from the car's page on one letter page, in black and white, with no deal started.
It is not the FTC Buyers Guide. The Buyers Guide is the federal form with the warranty terms and it is required on every used car. The window sticker hangs beside it. See Print the FTC Buyers Guide for a car.
Print one
- Open the car from Inventory.
- Click Print, then Window sticker.
- Check the Price. It starts as the car's asking price plus your standing dealer fees from Settings, then Deal defaults, added up as one figure. Change a fee or clear it. A fee at zero or empty is left out of the figure.
- Read What will print: the figure and the sentence under it. The sentence says whether your dealer fees are inside the price.
- Switch off any section you do not want on this print: Fuel economy, Features, Code to the listing, or the Price itself.
- Click Open the sticker. The page opens in a new tab. Print it at 100% size on white letter paper.
Nothing is saved when you print. The sticker is drawn from the car as it is at that moment, so after you change the price or the mileage, print it again.
To change the asking price, edit the car. The sticker always starts from the car's own asking price, so the glass and your website say the same number.
What prints
One letter page, top to bottom:
- Your dealership's name, phone and website, with your logo when you have one.
- The car's year, make, model and trim in large type, then the stock number and the VIN. A title brand prints when the title is not clean.
- About this car: engine, transmission, drive, fuel, fuel economy, color, body and doors. A line the car's record does not have is left off.
- Features: the equipment ticked on the car, grouped as on your website. On a car with a very long list, the last line says how many more are on the listing.
- Mileage, in large type.
- Price: one figure, with one sentence under it.
- A QR code that opens the car's page on your website.
- The disclaimer at the foot.
What your car cost never prints.
The price and the sentence under it
The sticker prints one price. It never prints an MSRP, a "was" price or a savings line, because several states do not allow those on a used car.
| What you print | The sentence under the price |
|---|---|
| The asking price with your dealer fees added in | Says the price includes the dealer fee, and that tax, title and registration fees are extra |
| The asking price with your dealer fees taken out | Says tax, title, registration and dealer fees are extra |
| The asking price, and your dealership charges no dealer fees | Says tax, title and registration fees are extra |
In Florida the sentence also names the tag fee. In California the sentence is the total price sentence from your website, and your document processing charge is never added to the figure, because that sentence names it as a charge added at the time of sale.
In Maryland a line prints above the price: Dealer processing charge (not required by law), with the amount. Maryland law asks for a price statement on the car's window that gives the total price with that charge inside it and named above it, and lets only the taxes and title fees paid to the State sit outside.
Many states treat a price on a car as an advertisement, and an advertised price has to include the dealer's own fees. When you take out a fee your dealership charges on every deal, the sheet shows what your state's rule says. It does not stop the print. This is our reading of the rules and not legal advice.
The code to the listing
The QR code opens the car's own page on your website, with its photos. It prints only for a car a shopper can open there: the car is published, and it is either available or carries a badge such as Coming Soon. For any other car the sheet says no code will print.
Print stickers for many cars
- On Inventory, tick the cars.
- Click Print window stickers.
- Click Open the stickers. One PDF opens, one page for each car, in the order of the list.
Up to 50 cars print at a time. Each prints the way your sticker settings say. To change one car's sticker, print it from that car's page.
Set your defaults
Owners and admin managers set these in Settings, then Car paperwork, under Window sticker:
- Print the price.
- Include your dealer fees in the price: on to start. Off, every sticker starts from the asking price alone.
- Print fuel economy: city and highway MPG, marked as EPA estimates for the car when new.
- Print the features.
- Print a code to the listing.
- Print the dealership logo: the logo from your website settings.
- Disclaimer at the foot: left empty, the standard text prints. Write your own to replace it.
If something is missing
| What you see | Why |
|---|---|
| No price | The car has no asking price, or the price is switched off |
| No fuel economy | The car's record has no city or highway MPG |
| No features | No features are ticked on the car |
| No QR code | The car is not published on your website |
| No logo | Your website settings have no logo |
