Keep sold cars on your website for a set number of days
Choose whether a sold car's page stays up marked Sold, set how many days it stays, and see what shoppers get when it is gone.
A vehicle page that has been live for a while has earned a place in search results. When the car sells you can keep that page up for a few days, marked Sold, instead of taking it down at once. Shoppers who land on it see the honest state of the car (no price, a Sold badge) and your other inventory, and search engines get time to move on gracefully.
Choose at the moment of sale
When you mark a deal sold, the dialog asks what to do with the car's page on your website:
- Take the page down now (the default) unpublishes it with the sale.
- Keep it up, marked Sold leaves the page live with a Sold badge and no price, for the number of days set below.
The quick Mark sold action on the vehicle page offers the same two choices. A wholesale or a disposal always takes the page down.
While a sold car's page is kept up, the car is never offered as one to buy: it is listed after every car for sale in your inventory (with the Sold badge, whatever badge it had before), it is left out of the featured cars and the inventory strips on your home page and out of "You might also like", and it is left out of every count of your cars: "vehicles in stock" on your home page, your About page and the preview a shared link to your site shows, the brands, models and vehicle types counted beside it, the "available now" and "for sale" counts your listing pages and search descriptions carry, and the number of cars available that llms.txt gives AI assistants. The writer behind Write it again (and the onboarding switch that writes your site's first words) leaves it out too: the number of cars it writes about, the makes it names and any price range it gives come from your cars for sale only. The website builder leaves it out when you set up an inventory strip: the car is not offered to pick, nor is a make or type only it has, and a strip that already had the car picked lists it as No longer for sale on your site so you can remove it.
Set how long a kept page stays
- Open Website settings.
- Find the Sold cars on your website card.
- Enter a number of days between 1 and 365 and choose Save. New accounts start at 7.
The number applies to every car you keep up from then on, counted from the day it was marked sold.
What happens when the days are up
The car leaves your website everywhere at once: the inventory listing, its own page, the sitemap, your machine-readable feeds and the storefront assistant. Nothing is deleted; the car stays in your inventory as sold.
Anyone who opens the old link (a bookmark, a shared message, a stale search result) is sent to your main inventory page with a note at the top: The listing you were looking for is no longer available, followed by everything you have in stock. It is never a dead page.
Take a kept page down sooner
Open the vehicle and choose Unpublish. The page comes down right away, and the old link behaves the same way as above.
