Shoppers can save cars

A heart on every car lets shoppers keep a shortlist on your website without an account, come back to it on the Saved cars page, and ask for email alerts about it.

Who: Owner or ManagerPlan: All plans

Shoppers can save the cars they like on your website, with no account and no sign-up. It is on for every site; there is nothing to set up.

What shoppers see

  • A heart on every car, at the top left of its photo: in your inventory, in the cars on your home page, and under "You might also like" on a car's page. Tap it to save the car; tap again to take it off.
  • Save this car on each car's page, beside Share.
  • Saved cars (3) once a shopper has saved something: under the count at the top of your inventory, in the pricing box on a car's page, and at the bottom of every page.
  • The Saved cars page shows each saved car the way your inventory does, in the order it was saved. A car that sold (after its sold days) or that you took down is no longer shown, and the page says so.

Where the list lives

The list stays in the shopper's own browser, on their own device. It follows them from page to page, and it is still there when they come back with the same browser. Nothing about it is stored on your website unless the shopper asks for email alerts (below).

To see the list on another device, a shopper can send themselves the address of the Saved cars page: it carries the cars in it.

Email alerts

Under the saved cars, Email me about these cars asks for an email address and a box to tick: I agree to receive emails from (your dealership) about price drops on the cars I saved and new arrivals like them. I can stop them at any time. Then:

  1. A link to confirm. We email it from your dealership, in your name, and replies go to you. Nothing else is sent until the shopper opens it and presses Turn on my alerts. The link works for 7 days, and asking twice in a day sends it once.
  2. At most one email a day after that, checked once a day:
    • A price drop on a saved car that is still for sale. Only a drop your price history proves: the car was advertised at the higher price for at least a week, the same rule as the Price Drop ribbon. The email names the car, its new price and its former price, with a link to the car. On a California lot it also carries the total-price line California requires in a first message about a specific car.
    • Otherwise, new arrivals: cars of the same makes that arrived on your site this week, with a link to your inventory showing those makes. Never the cars they already saved.
  3. A one-click unsubscribe in every alert. It stops all marketing email from your dealership to that address, the same list your other shopper emails use. A shopper who asks for alerts again later confirms again.

The emails are in your site's language, English or Spanish. A copy of every alert sent is kept with your records. Your site's privacy policy describes the alerts.

FAQ

Do I see which cars shoppers saved?

No. The list stays in the shopper's browser, and when a shopper asks for alerts the cars are kept only to send them. The views and leads counts on each car (see Shopper interest) show which cars draw attention.

Does an alert request show up as a lead?

No. Asking for alerts is not a question to you. When the shopper writes to you or books a test drive, that is a lead as usual.

Can I turn the alerts off?

No. Like the heart, they are part of every website, and each shopper decides whether to get them and can stop them with one click.

Can I turn the heart off?

No. It is part of every website, like the Share button.

Does saving a car hold it for the shopper?

No. Saving only keeps it on the shopper's list. The car stays for sale to everyone.
